Dorothy Heathcote's Teaching in Role £50.00
This course, led by Chris Lawrence and Amanda Kipling will demonstrate in a practical way the strategy of Teaching in Role, introduced into the world of Educational Drama by the late Dorothy Heathcote. It is designed to be applicable to both Primary and Secondary settings.
Teaching in Role is one of the most powerful and useful strategies that you can use when teaching drama but it is not well understood: teachers may fear that they may lose control of the class if they work in role. This course aims to dispel all fears and myths show you how you can feel confident about working in role with your class(es).
Chris Lawrence is the coordinator of London Drama and studied with Dorothy Heathcote for a whole year in 1971-72. He witnessed her teaching in role on many occasions and found teaching in role a very valuable strategy in his own teaching. He has experience of teaching in all phases of education.
Amanda Kipling is course leader on the PGCE Drama course at Goldsmiths University. Her professional interests include critical pedagogy, resistant practice, and healing in the classroom. The focus of her doctoral studies at the University of Chester is 'What happens when we think in role?' which is relevant to this course.
Date: Thursday 19th March 2020; 6-8pm
Venue: Old Diorama, Drummond Street London NW1 3FE.
