Drama and English as subjects have  a lot in common: for instance, the emphasis on stories and story making, and the exploration of characters, their actions and motives.

Playing with Stig
Stig of the Dump is a well known children's book and this session demonstrates how a varied and engaging drama lesson can be based around a narrative beyond 'acting out the story' using simple strategies. Deepening understanding, enriching literacy and extending theatre making, 'Playing with Stig' is designed for English teachers who teach drama, and drama teachers who would like to extend their skills in literacy.

Amanda Kipling has been a secondary drama teacher and is currently the leader of the PGCE Drama Course at Goldsmiths College. She specialised in voice at Central School of Speech and Drama, has been a member of the English Speaking Board for many years and is a former editor of ESB’s Speaking English magazine and a Trustee of London Drama.
