The aim of these two courses is to provide new and exciting ways into the teaching of the above theatre practitioners.
Although the two courses are aimed predominantly at ‘A’ Level teaching the strategies proposed and practised will also be useful ways into teaching younger students.
Each course will deliver practical, hands on strategies that are at once fun, accessible and easily repeatable; great for new comers to teaching Drama, but also for those more experienced who are seeking refreshing and different ways into teaching the above.
Theory and reference to writing essays etc.. will be woven into the practice, and Q&A actively encouraged.
Exemplary ‘A’ Level written work will be available.
David Baron was Head of Drama for 23 years in the London Borough of Havering, after having taught in a range of different schools in Inner City London, Luton, Manchester, and Oldham, and Paris. He completed the M.A. in Drama with Gavin Bolton at Durham University and also attended many Drama sessions with Dorothy Heathcote. He was an examiner for Edexcel G.C.S.E. Drama for a number of years, until school demands became compromising. David was the Chair of London Drama for two exciting years, and learnt a huge amount during this time. David quite recently retired from full time teaching and now thoroughly enjoys learning classical guitar, going to plays and live music, travelling and learning how to fly.
Gill Entwistle is a Drama teacher of some 20 years, having taught first in Redbridge, in the far north of Australia, and has been Head of Drama at Barking Abbey School for the past 10 years. She teaches KS3 to 5 and has just entered 83 students for the WJEC GCSE in Drama (the department's first year after switching from Edexcel). Gill has taught Edexcel Drama and Theatre Studies A level for the last 10 years or more. She loves Brecht and enjoyed teaching Churchill this year for the first time. She is a long time member of London Drama and an avid theatre goer.

STEP is a borough-wide partnership linking the theatre community and education and youth sector in the London Borough of Southwark. STEP aims to equalise, extend and deepen the theatre and drama experience of all young people living in Southwark through the development of strategic partnerships between schools, youth and community groups and theatres and performing arts organisations. STEP's objective is to work closely with Southwark schools, youth and community groups and theatres and performing arts organisations to develop creative approaches to learning and provide innovative projects which stimulate children and young people's personal development and contribute to their educational attainment.
