So You Want to be a Drama Teacher? £50.00 £20.00

So You Want to be a Drama Teacher?

So You Want to be a Drama Teacher? £50.00 £20.00

A course especially designed for people thinking about training to be a drama teacher or who have been accepted to join a PGCE/School Direct/GTP programme.

With the right preparation it is possible to remove some of the pressure from the initial teacher training year.

Many start wishing they had had a year or two in school and had taken more advantage of the training they were offered then. Some wish they had read much more - but had no idea what to read - or how to think about what they read at the time. It is possible to be watching excellent practice - but not realise it till it is not there any more, and then try to remember it ...and can't.

With a few pointers regarding the vital areas you can be working on before you start to train, you can take pressure off and ease this intensive year's training.

This course flags some golden 'do's' in preparation for teacher training and should stand you in good stead for embarking on the initial stages on your career.

Amanda Kipling taught Drama in secondary schools in London and is now in her tenth year leading the PGCE Drama programme at Goldsmiths. She is a trustee of London Drama and co-edits the Drama magazine with Chris Lawrence. Her research interests include drama as healing in the classroom, the role of electronic portfolios in building learning communities and pedagogies of resistance in the drama classroom.

Date: Tuesday 18th November 2014: 6.30-8.30pm
Venue: Royal Central School of Speech and Drama NW3 3HY.
